.We get many, many requests to carry books from both self-published and traditionally published authors. Here’s a run-down of commonly requested info.
I wrote a book, will you carry it?
We support as many authors as we can. That said, we simply don’t have room to carry every book we’d like. With so many self-publishing resources available these days we get dozens of emails each week from authors interested in having us carry their books. Those authors living in the immediate area are in the most demand as far as self-published books go and are more likely to be a good fit here.
If your book has been published through a traditional publisher and we feel we have the appropriate audience for it, we will order it through them or one of our regular distributors on standard industry terms. If your book is self-published or not available through our regular distributors, or is only available on a non-returnable basis or without the standard terms, we may decide to purchase from you directly. If we decide your book is a good fit for our store we generally start with 1-2 copies, depending on genre, and reorder as they sell. We may also consider taking your books on consignment.
Consignment Process:
1. Drop off two copies of books to The Taleless Dog at 204 Estill St. Berea KY - along with the attached consignment form filled out completely.
2. Book will be reviewed and we will contact you in 4 weeks if we are interested in carrying your book.
3. Books not selected will be held for 90 days from the drop off date for pickup by author. Books not picked up after 90 days will be donated.
4. Checks for sold consignment books are cut twice a year- June 30 and December 30. Profits are split 60/40, author/bookstore, based on retail price. Author must set retail price.
5. Given we are a small bookstore, space is extremely limited. As with our traditionally purchased books, those not sold within 6 months are returned. If this happens with a consignment book, the author will be contacted to pick up their books.
Consignment Requirements:
1. Books must be professionally bound with the title printed on the spine (people won’t notice your book if they can’t see the title when it’s on the shelf).
2. No spiral bound books will be accepted.
3. Books must have a barcode printed on the cover.
Can I have a book signing at your store?
We have established a once a year author event that is staged in November. If you would be interested in participating, please email us here.
